tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2925606367227514818.post8210042748659771570..comments2024-03-27T15:36:10.416-07:00Comments on Film Reviews from Two Guys in the Dark: The Company You Keep and Iron Man 3Ken Burke; Pat Craighttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18358623927080966157noreply@blogger.comBlogger2125tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2925606367227514818.post-78715464782767802792013-05-17T02:42:44.039-07:002013-05-17T02:42:44.039-07:00Hi rj, Your response—reasonable as it is because I...Hi rj, Your response—reasonable as it is because I agree that the first <i>Iron Man</i> was considerably better than either of its sequels—got me thinking about the hard choices one has to make with the binary thumbs up or down system (I know it worked for the Roman emperors and Siskel and Ebert—in their own way, emperors of film reviewing—but it's hard for me to be that specific [as my rambling reviews clearly prove]). <br /><br />In my 3 of 5 stars case I guess I'd be giving thumbs up to anything with a 3 or higher, which may seem more positive than I'd want to intend (although even S & E sometimes indicated some variation with a "thumb way up" decision to help differentiate the really good ones) so I wish that this system could accommodate at least a horizontal thumb, a sort of neutral position (for my 3 stars stuff) that doesn't quite commit to either good or bad. <br /><br />In your review stance, though, two thumbs down from just one guy doesn't leave any room for doubt so there's no need for negotiation with <i>Iron Man 3</i>, message heard loud and clear. Come back soon and tell us what you think of <i>Star Trek Into Darkness</i>, which I haven't seen yet but will have a review posted for by about May 30. As always, thanks for reading and responding.
